Walter Yarwood

Walter Yarwood was a largely self-taught artist born in Toronto, Ontario in 1917. He earned his living by working as a professional advertising artist. As a member of Painters Eleven, he showed a number of richly textured semi-figurative canvases.

Regrettably, Yarwood gave up painting shortly after the disbannment of the Painters Eleven, in favor of sculpture, cutting short a promising career in painting. Some of Yarwood’s well known sculptures were commissions from institutions such as Sydney Smith Hall, University of Toronto, Winnipeg International Airport, York University,Toronto and Expo ‘67 Montreal. Walter Yarwood died in 1996 in Hamilton, Ontario.
